Standard #6: Assessment: The teacher
understands and uses multiple methods
of assessment to engage learners in their
own growth, to monitor learner progress,
and to guide the teacher and learner’s
decision-making.
Artifact #1:
I created the following rubric for a third grade lesson plan on the book Sarah, Plain and Tall focusing on vocabulary. Students were to research an unknown word using evidence and context clues from the text and outside resources and use a graphic organizer given to them based on their ability level adjusted by the teacher to put work into context. The students were then graded based on the rubric shown below. The teacher can then adjust assessment for differentiation, such as matching definition to vocabulary word and highlighting in the text where the word is used in context. This artifact demonstrates my understanding of the standard through illustrating my ability to ensure students' intellectual and social development. The rubric guides students' decisions and offers multiple methods for students to complete the assignment while still following the rules of the rubric.
Artifact #2:
Below is the formal summative assessment for a math lesson I created for first grade. This formal assessment demonstrates my understanding of this standard by exhibiting my ability to assess in multiple ways, and allows me to monitor my students' progress.
