My name is Jessica Burchfield, and I would like to be a K-5 teacher working on a professional team to educate students. I have a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in Marketing. I graduated from University of Tennessee in 2015 and worked as a sales representative for Budget Blinds and in-school branch leader for Y-12 Federal Credit Union.
As an in-school branch advisor for Eagleton Middle School, Union Grove Middle School, and William Blount High School I found my desire to teach. As the advisor, I interviewed students to be employees of the in-school branch credit union during lunch to help students make real-world accounts and learn about saving money for the future. Through this program, I had the opportunity to build a program for special education students in Eagleton Middle School, where they partnered as workers with other students in the in-school credit union to build knowledge of money and accounts.
In August of 2016, I started working for the Loudon County School system at Greenback Public School for the RTI program. I teach students in Tier II and Tier III from Kindergarten to 8th grade in Mathematics and English, Language Arts. Shortly after working in this program I felt reassured teaching is what I am truly meant to do, so I enrolled at South College to get my masters in Elementary Education at the beginning of 2017. I am currently student teaching at Greenback and will graduate with my masters in June of 2018.
I have learned so much from these experiences, and I am looking forward to my future as an elementary school teacher.
Sincerely,
Jessica Burchfield
