Standard #3: Learning Environments: The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
Artifact #1
The following picture is of the points reward system I implement in my RTI classes to reward students for meeting goals and good behavior. At the beginning of the year we discuss the appropriate and reasonable amount of points to receive a big prize, such as more free time at the end of week or candy. In addition, the students and I discussed the number of points they will receive for improving their scores and good behavior. These scores varied per class based the subject and grade level.
In addition, the goals set for students very because students receive points for improving upon their highest score. In the example above students receive 3 points for improving upon their highest score. Thus, the goal is for students to be constantly improving.
Artifact #2:
To create an environment that encourages learning I created a fun extra activity for one of my first grade ELA lessons integrating science. After students had showed mastery of the lesson students were given this fun extra activity that goes along with the standards. The extra activity involves building star constellations out of marshmallows and pretzels, thus promoting self-motivation within students and encouraging active engagement in learning.
